After being betrayed by her con man ex-fiancĂ©, Kyla Bennett nurses a broken heart. But Kyla’s friends have other ideas and when they whisk her off to Whisper Creek, a dude ranch staffed by cowboys so hot they dim the Montana sunset, all Kyla wants to do is hide under a quilt. Then in rides Decker Driscoll. He’s hauling about as much emotional baggage as Kyla, but when he stands close by, both of them want to stay close—and begin to succumb to an undeniable attraction.

After experiencing personal tragedy, Decker never thought he’d see Big Sky country again. But now that his family's Whisper Creek property is in deep with a Vegas gambler, Decker’s back for the summer—and spending all his time running from “cowgirls” who come to the dude ranch to score some dudes. Then he meets Kyla, a kindred spirit who brings on a stampede of protective feelings . . . and a powerful hankering to sear her with a new brand of love.

****

A dude ranch is not exactly Kyla's idea of fun, but she is willing to go along with her friends, she knows she needs a complete change of scenery after her ex left her betrayed and exposed. A city girl at heart, she never expected to take to ranch life the way she does. Of course Decker, his mother and his brother have everything to do with it as well, they make for a warm and welcoming hiding place. But when Decker sparks more than a casual interest, Kyla does her best to ignore her body's signals. After all, she doesn't have the best judgement when it comes to men and she doesn't quite trust herself, let alone a virtual stranger.

Decker, who is an architect by trade, has taken the summer to help his family recover from devastating financial losses that have only come to light, since the recent passing of his father. A traumatic event years before had caused Decker to move away, but he had never been really happy in the city. He wants to save the ranch and the land, not just for his mother, but himself as well. That is the only reason he is doubling as a 'cowboy', taking tourists around on trail rides for the summer. When Kyla and her friends from Boston arrive, he is immediately attracted to her. A first, since all summer he has been avoiding any entanglements with the female visitors. But Kyla is different, she doesn't seem to be too eager to throw herself at him like some of the other women he has encountered.

Despite the fact that neither one was looking to get involved, especially since any entanglements would be of a temporary nature, Decker and Kyla can't seem to resist each other for very long. But nothing comes easy, and aside from a handful of mishaps, a pending deadline on the ranch's financing, a jealous and delusional ex, there always remains the reality of lives on opposite sides of the country.

This is a story full of colour and atmosphere, with a cast of mostly warm and generous people, the odd nasty cow, an assortment of 'wildlife' and a handful of tasty cowboys. A heroine slightly damaged, but with a heart of gold and a hero whose walls quickly crumble for the right woman.

✨A classic, warm-hearted romance, with plenty of action, some humour and sweet sensuality.✨
