My rating: 4 of 5 ⭐️

After fainting into the arms of her number one enemy, developer Roman Diaz, Ashley Bowman comes to in her grandmother's old resort office. Before she so gracelessly crumpled at her nemesis' feet, she did manage to finagle his promise to drive her and her prized Airstream to a friend's house, in return for unshackling herself from the tree.

Ashley purposely refrains from telling him where the friend's house is located as long as possible, instead annoying him as best as she can to try and get him to spill his plans for the resort. Their trip to stay out of the path of the storm and to Ashley's drop off, does not go off without a hitch!!

****

It is almost as if Ashley ups her gamesmanship a notch, in part to divert attention from their destination, in part to obtain information, but the largest part is still to obscure the deep rooted feelings of abandonment that are bubbling to the surface more and more. Ashley knows she has to hate Roman and everything he stands for and she does her best to feel that way, but there is just something about him that gets under her skin.

To Roman, Ashley is almost an alien creature. He doesn't get her at all....although there are times when she doesn't pull up her mask fast enough, and he can see a glimpse of the hurt that lives underneath, when he feels a flicker of recognition. Everything she does should be offensive and turn him off, but he is not sure that is the case at all times anymore. His focus and determination are strong, though. This resort is the culmination of all he set out to do, his dream, and he can't....won't let anything interfere with that!

Aside from the hilarious antics, there is so much more story rippling under the surface we only see glimpses of here and there. There is an emotional complexity for both characters that makes this simple case of property transfer into a deeper tale of emotional roots and belonging.

✨A spirited and witty instalment!✨
